CNBC recently aired an original documentary titled “Inside the Mind of Google” (http://www.cnbc.com/id/33831099) which was very interesting for anyone in the IT industry. What I found to be the most interesting segment was their look at Google Adwords. For those of you that don’t know what Adwords is, it’s Google’s Pay-Per-Click ad network.
With Google AdWords, you can create and run ads for your business and you only pay when people click your ads.
AdWords ads are displayed along with organic search results when someone searches Google using one of your keywords. That way, you’ll be advertising to an audience that’s already interested in your business. You can choose from a variety of ad formats, including text, image, and video ads, and easily track your ad performance.
The show featured a segment on Bond Boot, a family-owned custom cowboy boot manufacturing business that uses Google Adwords in conjunction with traditional advertising to increase brand awareness and sales throughout the world. When they first started using Google Adwords, orders instantly spiked an incredible 20% and have continued to increase. The reporter asked George Bond, the owner’s son “How good of a program is it for small businesses like yours?” to which he replied, “In my opinion it would be indispensible at a time like this. You can hit the people that are really interested in the product…” He went on to say that they could easily and relatively cheaply, increase their Adwords budget and increase the demand for our products beyond their ability to fulfill the orders with their current staff.
That is a powerful endorsement of an advertising platform!
